Fast fashion has claimed many victims. At first, the trend was confined mostly to women’s fashion, as women tend to buy more clothes than men. That said, men are the fastest growing demographic in fashion; that’s in part because fast fashion trends have hit men’s clothing, as well. Suits can be worn by any gender, but we’re sad to say the fast fashion trend has hit suits as well; you can go to a mall and buy a suit off the rack from someone who got hired with no tailoring experience at all. There’s a lot of reasons fast fashion is bad, a couple of which we’re going to touch on, but the focus today will be the benefits of a custom suit - how good they’ll make you look and feel, and how much value they bring to your life.
No matter what shape your body is, a custom suit is going to fit you perfectly. That’s really the main advantage of customisation - the suit is created with your exact measurements in mind. A custom suit is going to cut the figure you want it to, emphasising all of your assets while downplaying any features you might not be so fond of. Now, it’s important that you know how you want to look - that’s something that stylists can help you with if you find yourself on uncertain ground.
Having a good fit is about more than just looking good - it’s about feeling good. When we talk about feeling good, we can be talking about it on a physical level, or on an emotional/spiritual/mental level; obviously, the two are intertwined. A custom suit is going to feel good physically; it’s designed to your specifications, so it won’t be too tight or too loose, and you’ll be able to move around freely in your clothes while still cutting the right figure. On a metaphysical level, when you like the way you look and the way your clothes feel, you’ll be in a better, more confident mood. Look good, feel-good - custom suits do it all.
When you get fast fashion suits, you’re getting suits that might have been constructed by folks working in deplorable conditions. That’s obviously deplorable on an ethical level - it also means your suit probably isn’t going to be very well-constructed. When you’re toiling in the fast fashion industry, productivity, not quality, is key. The consequence of this can be poor quality stitching, usually done by machine rather than by hand.
The other problem with fast fashion, off-the-rack suits is that they’ll often be made with low quality materials. High-quality, custom suits can be made with materials of your choice, but they’ll usually be wool, cotton, silk, or some other high quality organic material, while off-the-rack suits might be made of polyester. They aren’t built to last, and they don’t look as good. When you go custom, you know exactly what high quality materials you’re getting.
When you’re buying anything off-the-rack, there’s a limit to how well anything will work with your personal style. With custom suits, your imagination is the limit - if you can dream it, it can probably be done. Have you always wanted a purple suit jacket and trousers? We can make it happen. Want to play with deep lapels? We can do that. Looking to experiment with different kinds of cuffs and buttons? Go right ahead! Want pinstripes, or houndstooth, or some other kind of pattern? With custom suits, it can all be done.
Being able to express yourself plays into
what we were talking about earlier - comfort and confidence. Whether you want a
more traditional style, or you’re an eclectic dresser, a properly fitted suit
made out of the finest materials is going to let your personality shine. When
you wear a great suit, people take notice.
There’s a couple of different approaches here - you can get a custom suit for every occasion, or you can get a custom suit for any occasion. You might be a particularly colourful dresser - if you are, you’re going to need a different suit for a wedding then, say, for a funeral or memorial service. You can get a custom suit for each type of occasion you anticipate, some more fun, others more subdued. On the flipside, a tastefully made custom-suit can fit every occasion - there are certainly suits that work just as well for weddings, business events, and funerals.
Now, if you’re an attorney, a banker, or any other professional who wears suits daily, you’ll want at least a few custom suits. There’s no rule that says you can’t wear the same suit twice in a week, but being able to vary the suits you’re wearing adds a sense of professionalism as well as variety, which is, after all, the spice of life. Custom suits are great for professionals because they last longer - they’re shaped to fit you perfectly, and they’re made of higher-grade materials, so you can expect a long shelf-life with proper care.
Back in the day, there was really only one type of business attire: men wore suits, women wore dresses, and varying from that was pretty much unacceptable. Nowadays, some offices are perfectly fine with you showing up in a t-shirt and jeans and there are plenty of hoodie-wearing CEOs. On the flip side, you probably won’t have an appointment with your lawyer or banker where they’re hanging out in jeans and a Hawaiian shirt.
People know that they’ll be judged based on their appearance and whether or not that’s a good thing is a philosophical discussion for another time. What matters is that the pressure is real. This pressure can cause people to spend thousands of dollars on plastic surgery, Botox , and other cosmetic procedures, when in most cases, all that’s needed is some fashion advice and new clothes.
